An MBA is not necessary -- but there are many fields where it will help you. An MBA from a top school will allow you to increase your salary dramatically and will allow you to change fields. In my opinion, an MBA from a school that is not one of the top schools is not worth much.
The top schools want you to have three or four years of experience -- so that corner office might be off in the future.

An MBA is definitely not necessary, but MBAs do earn higher salaries. It depends on your field and what stage you're at in your field. At executive levels, work credentials speak for themselves. But for those who are early-to-mid career, an MBA can definitely tip the scales.
In 2002, the median full-time MBA student earned $50,000 before obtaining an MBA, according to The Graduate Management Admission Council's "The 2003 Global MBA Graduate Study." Immediately after completing the MBA program, that same student expected to earn $75,000, excluding signing bonus.

It depends on what you are doing and what you want to do. If you start your own company, you don't even need a degree. A lot of successful people do not have degrees. A lot of degreed people work for people without degrees. You are more than a piece of paper on the wall.
(I have a BS and an MBA)

It is only necessary if you feel that you need more skills.
If you are doing that just for getting a new or better job... I don't think so.
