I live 8 miles away from St Albans, its a beautiful area, I don't think there are any dodgy estates, may be a few dodgy people though. LOL Seriously though I tried to Buy a house there and we just cannot afford their prices. If you get offered a place from the council, grab it with both hands.

depends what you class as dodgy!! im from the cottonmill area and i love it hear. london colney estate (norris close) has a bad reputation.other than that they are all quite nice. i wouldnt go to dell fields thats a no no!! but hill end area and cottonmill are the nisest places in st.albans id say,they are all a mix of flats and houses.good luck

they are actauly pretty nice i use to walk by them on my way to school. of course i never say the inside so i woudlnt realy no to well. the best thing would be to see if you can get in to look around or hang out in a pub near by so you can see the kind of people that are coming and going from them, if they look like good people then dont worry about it.
