Yes, as long as you're not mixing the synthetic with "regular" oil. Make sure you get the correct weight, as some engines are very specific about what they need. See your owner's manual. Keep in mind, though the oil may last longer, the filter can only do its thing for so long before it starts to become ineffective.

As you have undoubtedly noticed, some synthetic oils make claims of comparatively long oil change intervals. The main advantage of synthetic oil is its temperature stability. The viscosity of this oil thickens less in colder weather and it does not thin to the point of lubrication loss or turn into sludge at extremely high temperatures. This stability also does not degrade over time as rapidly as mineral-based oil. Regardless of this quality, any oil, synthetic or mineral based, must also suspend impurities within itself; preventing deposits on internal engine parts. It also contains anti-foaming qualities and chemical additives to battle the formation of acids and other lubrication undesirables. Oil changes, especially with an oil filter change, reload the lube and chemical cocktail to insure continuous protection. Therefore any extended change interval oil must defeat the above problems for as much as three to five times greater than factory recommended oil changes. As another responder stated: oil changes exceeding factory standards will void the warranty. The dealer will deny any internal engine warranty claims, directing you to the oil company for compensation. If you wish to roll the dice - go for it. Probably it will be OK! So, possible? Certainly. Advisable? Maybe, maybe not.

THere are synthetic brands of oil out there that are supposed to extend the oil life to 7500 miles or 10000 miles. Even thou the oil does not need changing at the recommended intervals it may void your warranty if you do not follow the manfacturers instructions.

You may be able to increase your oil change interval using synthetic to 6 mo/6,000 mi. Make sure that you also upgrade your oil filter to one that can last that long- regular oil filters still must be changed at 3 mo/3,000 mi, thus defeating the purpose.
