Question

In Britain .. a pizza can get to your house faster than an ambulance.
Supermarkets make sick people walk all the way to the back of the shop to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
People order double cheeseburgers, large fries and a DIET coke.

A resounding, Yeessssssssss.
But the pharmacy in the back keeps the crack-heads from runnning out the front door w/scrip drugs or robbery.
Who cares if the smokes are 5-fingered, stupid punks are killing themselves and will eventually make that long walk back for drugs.
Diet anything is just a big marketing joke, reduce sugar:add fat, reduce fat:add sugar and salt, reduce sodium:add fat.
Cook at home, eat at home, and stay away from processed foods, or go all diet and still be obese.

As long as people have some rational thought they feel its ok to do a huge bad thing, and offset it with a little small good thing, making cigarettes available in the front of the store was originally thought of as trying to get people to get embarrassing disapproving looks from people entering/leaving the store, and the DIET coke is just a stupid way to make you feel that you are somehow attempting to lose weight. People are stupid, they have always been stupid, its just that now there are more ways to reinvent the stupidity as something else....

You know we do (or should I say: society does), or you wouldn't be asking that question. It's a good thing you are though, because it's questions like these that make people think. You asked and you answered your own question, while most don't even bother asking until they're made to when confronted with these answers, which is why our priorities are still wrong and will take their time to change for the better. I disagree with your last statement. I mean, as to it being nonsensical.

I understand why it looks odd, but it's like this - if you're already having all those calories, why add more on top of it? Diet cola can be quite tasty; I don't think there's a good substitute for burgers and fries yet!

Not only that, but someone may want to avoid the additional sugar.

No, its just called been British, we do things in this country that they don't do anywhere else, were famous for it and we can laugh at ourselves, you don't see others do that too often do you.
