My top pick: TEXAS!!! Friendly folks, culture, history, Texas pride, awesome cities, beautiful country, geographical diversity, clean skies (outside the large cities,) warm weather, great universities. A western sky's-the-limit and can-do-will-do attitude with southern hospitality!

The other two states:
-Tennessee: I'm not trying to denigrate it here, b/c it's still a beautiful state in it's own right. It has friendly people, for the most part, the mountains are breathtaking, and Nashville and Memphis have a lot of history, music culture, and economic development. Beale St. is awesome!
-Kentucky: I live here, I'm a native, and I can say that it sucks. No southern hospitality here. Few people say "thank you," girls don't like it when guys hold doors open for them, and the economic opportunities are limited. Unless you already know or are kin to somebody, people don't act like they know you; some just get abrasive w/ you. Plus, there is a HUGE welfare state in eastern KY.

I am also a native to Louisville, Kentucky and I love it here. Yes I agree with a lot of girls don't say thank you, but I always do. Yes the ecomony sucks right now, but hopefully it will get better soon. I try to be friendly to everyone I met and try to make new people feel like they aren't outsiders. Eastern KY's economy is the worst in the state, they don't have big factorys or a whole lot of other places to work, so yes they are going to have a big welfare problem.

Not everyone is complete jerks here in Kentucky, I love living here and won't live anywhere else. Kentucky is a beautiful state.

never been to texas...so, i can't comment on it.

tennessee is a beautiful state, for all the reasons you've stated. the mountains are lovely, the people are nice, etc.

kentucky...i'm a native and i think it's beautiful also. the mountains extend into appalachia. not the richest area, but still pretty. i say thank you, and have never noticed others who don't. maybe there's so few. i like it when guys hold doors open for me...it doesn't happen often enough anymore. "unless you already know or are kin to somebody, people don't act like they know you." hmm...maybe that's because they don't? people are abrasive everywhere. it's not only in kentucky. i wish you would attempt to be more non-biased. you are able to see the finer points in other states, but not one for your own kentucky? how sad...

being a southern girl raised in southern KY,, I must admit some of your portraits of KY are correct,, especially more recently. I like Ky because there is just a feeling of coming home when your there,, it's very pretty too.

Tenn is great,, the mountains are soo pretty in the fall. the people there are so so,,, alot like KY ppl,, I love the fact that both ky and tenn have so much pride in like their ball teams and colleges.

Now Texas,, since I have never actually been there I can not speak from any kind of experience, however,, from the people I know there,, and what I have seen,, it looks like a great place to go,, so much history and culture it would take you a life time to see and do it all. ( unlike Kansas where I am right now,, and you can do it all in ohhh say about 2 hours) Texas I think is interesting because of the range of stuff from just plain down home country living to big city,, from Mexican culture to rodeo's and big business. native Americans , rednecks,, city slickers,, LOL it has it all.

Plus damn who doesn't like a talk dark texain in tight jeans and cowboy boots? oh and the hat,, gotta have the hat!!!!!

Kentucky girl here - Louisville area. I've seen plenty of Southern hospitality here in Kentucky. As a matter of fact, I've been in all three states, and there are nice people and cities in each state. I hope things get better for ya! Have a great day and I'll see ya at the Derby.

As a Texan, I'm also gonna go with Texas. I do disagree with you on the weather aspect, it's not warm here it is freaking miserable. Ninety-eight degrees, and ninety percent humidity is not a good thing. Otherwise I love the state. You are right about the great universities, I'm at Texas A&M University, and I love it.

TEXAS! For all the reasons you named above, PLUS I'm a native Texan.
Each place holds it's own special type of beauty, but in my opinion, nothing can compare to Texas!
