Get a product called Talstar (active ingredient bifenthrin). It is the best product for Chinch bugs. Also make sure that you apply the product according to the directions on the label so you make sure you get the proper application and kill off the little suckers!

You have to purchase a product with bifenthrin.. it is readily available at Lowes or Home Depot and has less toxicity than Dursban. Not only will Talstar get rid of chinch bugs, but it it also works on ticks, mosquitos, ants, and other critters (also on the label).

Soap and water does nothing for chinch bugs. Once they get over being doused with soapy water, they will get back to eating your lawn.

Chinch bugs love areas in turf that suffer from drought. Areas next to driveways and sidewalks are notorious for chinch infestations.. make sure your sprinklers are working properly. You could also hand water areas that are looking dry to prevent chinch bugs from coming into your lawn.

I was a garden expert for Lowes and Home Depot. The best I found is Bayer Complete. It is a granular and is spread like fertilizer.Use a drop or broadcast spreader. You can also use Malathion. It is a liquid and has to be dispersed via hose end sprayer. The bayer complete kills 40 types of insects. It targets surface and ground insects. So it will also kill bugs you don't even know you have.It will NOT kill fire ants though.

I use Dursban....it's sold under the Spectracide label. I use an old weed-n-feed spray bottle to put on the lawn. Works great. And it's also good for grubs, and any mosquitos that you may have in the grass.
