Check every electrical/electronic component carefully as this is the Polo's Achilles heel.
If you can pull one of the plug wires out of the distributor cap and rest it on the edge of its plug hole and have someone crank the ignition you should see spark arching into the hole(be careful not to hold the wire with your bare hands because of electrocution, and have the car in neutral) if no spark big trouble.

Check you carborator or distributor cap. If the flue in the carb is sticking it wont open to let the fuel in & if you have moisture in your distributor cap it could keep your plugs from sparking...

bad plugs. bad plugs wires, bad distributer, not getting gas, fuel filter blockage, blocked fuel lines, bad fuel pump, jumped time, i had a car that wouldnt start if the oil pressure was too low. could be lots of things im afraid. you should find a good mechanic to check it over.

I cant believe you cant get a VW polo to start.I used to have one,it never failed me.The only reason I stopped using it was that I couldnt open the doors any more.

what you need to do is get a piece of wire attach one side to the distributor and the other side to an earth. the car should now start. If it does you need a new distributor
