Swimming in the sea in Florida where there were known to be sea lice notices advised people to take showeres after swimming. This I did, but 3 months later I still have a rash on my lower back. Is it sea lice or just a heat rash!

The common symptoms include intensely itchy skin eruptions with small blisters and elevated areas of skin. Found primarily on parts of the body covered by swim wear, these lesions may also appear on the armpits and neck and occasionally on the arms and legs. Most divers and swimmers call it "sea lice." The term is a misnomer, however. Sea lice are actually fish parasites, do not affect humans, and have nothing to do with sea bather's eruption, which is caused by the larvae of jellyfish.

My boyfriend lives in Florida, and i resently visited him. I had no idea about sealice, and was horrified when he told me about it AFTER being in the water.

Though, from his experience, he told me to get straight into a swimming pool as chlorine kills them off straight away. Its worked since ive had no signs of sea lice.

So if you're still worried, i recommend going for a swim at the local pool.

Hope that helps.
