I don't think lying is ever good with friends. Honesty is what develops trust in a relationship.

Whether it is better to tell the truth or lie to someone we care about can sometimes blurr our decision as of what to do, this is no easy task. The first thing i would ask myself is what are the consequences of the lie or truth. Is this a life or death thing, some people can handle the truth. Somethings in life need not to be protected but learned.

I wouldn't lie to my friend to protect them. The truth will come out eventually and nobody likes being lied to. Honesty is the best policy and how will a friend trust you again once they found out that you've lied to them? The 2 most important foundations in any relationship is honesty and trust.

You didn't say about what but I know that if you were my friend and I found out you lied to me about something that was important to me or important for me to know, which I assume is the case or you wouldn't need to protect me from it, we wouldn't be friends anymore. I think its more likely you are really trying to protect yourself from having to tell them, even if it whatever is happening doesn't concern you directly its still a tough position to be in. You aren't protecting your friend by keeping info from them that they need, you are making yourself an accomplice to whoever or whatever is happening...what decisions might this person make about their lives differently if they had the knowledge of this? I don't really think you have the right to both call yourself a friend, and keep it from them.

Depends on what your lying about? But I'm gonna say No, if your lying to a friend then your not really there friend, you should be honest with them. I've lied to friends before but normally the truth comes out eventually.

I'm never a fan of lying, especially if they found out that you knew and then lied to them. Be honest as tactfully as possible. It hurts to find out whatever new there is, but you'd get over it. It's worse to feel betrayed by a friend.
