I recently purchased a Chinese Algae Eater, along with a Black Ghost Knife fish. They have only been in the take for about 3 weeks, but I have started to notice that the CAE will not leave my Ghost alone. I have had other small community fish in the take for months now, (don't know what they are) and I have already found two dead since introducing the CAE. He is very aggressive towards other fish in the tank. I'm not necessarly saying he is responsible, but I would not be supprised. I'm more concerned with the Ghost, I took me 2 months to find one, and I'm not ready to lose him yet. Is there anyway to get the CAE to leave the others alone, or should I just get rid on him? If the CAE goes, what would be a good replacement for him, if any?

I keep the algae waffers in the tank for him, but he still chases the others around. I think I should just get rid of him.

As for my ghost, by far the coolest thing I have ever seen. he eats bloodworms, and frozen brine shrimp. Ever so often I seem him snack on a shrimp pellet. For the past two weeks though I haven't seen much of him like I did at first. I think the CAE has driven him into a hole, and now he is not eating as much as he used to.

Small CAE's nice. Large CAE's not so nice. Their dietary behavior changes from eating algae to eating the slime coats off other fish.

CAE's grow in aggression as they grow in size (and they can get close to a foot in length if cared for properly). Actually pretty awesome at that size since you normally only see them in the 2"-4" size.

Best kept with fish more aggressive than them.

Well, I have 2 chinese algae eaters, and they are very aggressive toward eachother. I read somewhere that they may be that way because they are hungry, (they aren't very good at eating algae). So I started throwing in an algae disc in the tank per day, and I've noticed that they don't chase each other around nearly as much. As far as replacements go, apple/mystery snails are great, as are plecos, which I think are way cooler than algae eaters anyway. =) Hope this helps!

PS. I also just got a black ghost, they are great!! What does yours eat?

Thanks for letting me know what yours eats! Mine also eats frozen bloodworms, I was just wondering if there was anything else he might like, the people in the petshop were of no help, LOL. And it sounds like you need to get rid of the CAE. =( Sorry.

Um I have 3 and they aren't agressive at all. The only time that they chase other fish is when another fish bothers them.

Yeah they are aggressive and kill other fish. Get rid of it and get a pleco instead.
