Ethanol:
"The largest single use of ethanol is as a motor fuel and fuel additive. The largest national fuel ethanol industries exist in Brazil (all fuel sold in Brazil contains at least 20% ethanol).[15] Production is easy (from fermentation of sugar from e.g. sugar cane) and environmentaly benign (under ideal conditions the combustion only affords water and carbon dioxide), but it has a lower energy content than gasoline."

"Compared with conventional unleaded gasoline, ethanol is a clean burning fuel source that combusts cleanly with oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water:"

Biodiesel:
"Biodiesel refers to a diesel-equivalent, processed fuel derived from biological sources. Though derived from biological sources, it's a processed fuel that can be readily used in diesel-engined vehicles, which distinguishes biodiesel from the straight vegetable oils (SVO) or waste vegetable oils (WVO) used as fuels in some modified diesel vehicles."

"The Union of Concerned Scientists writes: "When it comes to buying a new car, gasoline-powered models are better than diesels on toxic soot and smog-forming emissions. The downside to current diesels is that they produce 10 to 20 times more toxic particulates than their gasoline counterparts, more than can be made up for with the use of biodiesel. Diesels fare even worse when it comes to smog-forming nitrogen oxide emissions, with greater than 20 times the emissions of a comparable gasoline vehicle."

Cars that run on E85 ethanol require fuel that is 85% ethanol (a grain alcohol made from corn) and 15% gasoline. Vehicles that run on biodiesel run on a specialized form of diesel fuel that can be made from soybeans and certain types of oils (peanut, coconut, vegetable, etc.)

Bio diesel is just that diesel fuel. Ethanol is alcohol from corn which is designed to be burned in a non diesel engine. The only similarities are that they are both fuel alternatives, and bio diesel is generally from vegetable oil.
