Tequila (technically mezcal) and the agave drinks. You can learn a lot of interesting things (history, science, culture) and mess with your teacher's mind at the same time. Do the "book" research now, but wait until you're 21 to do the field research. I've thrown in a few wikipedia links to get you started, but dig deep -- microorganisms, the fermentation process, regional differences, laws, and anything else you can find on this interesting subject.

Well, Immigration sounds a little too common as a topic, you might want to choose Mariachi, if it can be about music that could be nice, you can look for some info in english in wikipedia I guess.

What about the quality of life of the Mexican people? Or why some Mexican residents enter the US illegally instead of legally? What is the main reason?
Good luck
