I already have my Master's of Education in Instructional Technoloy, but don't know if the PhD program will give me the results I am looking for... Or would an MBA get me to the director's position in a shorter time frame???

You aren't specific about your work goals. I would only siggest getting a PhD if you love doing research.

An MBA is a practical degree and is very different from a PhD (I have an MBA in Finance and a PhD in Finance -- so I know this first hand). An MBA may be a better way to get to a management position. You should remember, though, that some academic positions (even administrative) demand a PhD.

Who do you know who is a director now? What are there backgrounds?

MBA is mostly for people that want to get into business or management. But if you are looking for a program director's position at an educational institution then a PhD has a better chance of getting you there than an MBA.

MBA is a better bang for the buck than a PhD.

ugh, hard answer is, "depends what you want to do"

wanna trade stocks; get the MBA (or nothing)
wanna be back-room, figuring out derivatives; get the PhD

People get PhD's so they can teach
