Run the msconfig utility. Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. (Usually you can uncheck them all). If you decide you to need one, you can go back and recheck it.

Having many startup programmes make the computer run slowly. It consumes energy as well.To get rid of this problem, clik start, click Run and type msconfig and hit OK. It will take you to the System configuration Utility. There you will find the Startup option. You can deselect those options that you think not required. Press Apply and restart your system.

First you should uninstall the associated program using it's uninstaller or under Add/Remove programs.
You can then go to Start/Run and type msconfig.
Under the Startup tab you can uncheck unwanted programs. Be careful, you may need something to run that is there.

--"msconfig" brings up the msconfig utility. You can disable startup programs there.
