First, use an ice pack on it to slow the swelling and to ease the throbbing. Next, take three Aleve or four Motrin, whichever you have. Finally, go see the doctor and have it X-rayed. You may need a splint or a cast, and you don't want to let it go if it's broken or fractured. If the pain is terrible, ask the doctor to write you a prescription for pain killer. You don't want naprosyn (that's Aleve); see if he/she will give you Tylenol 3 or Darvocet or something like that. Don't wait -- do the ice and anti-inflammatories and get to the doctor ASAP.

First you should use ice to control the swelling, then maybe Ibuprofen or Tylenol for the pain and then go to the doctor.
