Whether rich or poor isn't a point. But by having money, and paying more taxes, we can afford schools, highways, welfare programs, aid to other countries, police, firemen, disaster relief, environmental protection, public facilities and such. Your question is very thoughtless as you are not considering either the use of the money or the political parties. It is not a matter of party politics but the needs of the nation. In a way of thinking, it is creating a type of socialism where there is equality between the rich and poor...if I have and you don't, then it seems fair that I should share my advantage.

I don't know that it is just "democrats", but they do have a history of it. The reason that politicians like to raise taxes is because there are only two ways to increase the impact of a budget.
1) You increase your income OR
2) You decrease your spending
Politicians waste taxpayer money like it grows on trees and don't want to cut out their taxpayer-funded 5-star hotels and first-class seats on the plane. They believe that the answer is to just throw more money at the problem and what do they care about the American people and their hard-earned money??
The politician's primary interest is in pleasing their campaign contributors, not their constituency. The sooner Americans can concentrate on that fact rather than when Survivor is going to premiere, the sooner we get to the root of the problems in politics at ALL levels.

That is one of the Democratic Party's credos.
It's the old tax and spend idea. The Democrats believe that everyone has the responsibility to help the less fortunate by redistributing some of the wealth via taxes.
I know, I know. That's a simplistic answer to a complex problem. But, that's all I've got for today.

I'd like to know where you are getting your information? Regardless of the rates (which are not 40%), we must have taxes to pay for roads, county programs, schools, police protection, etc. And, being rich doesn't necessarily mean that you pay more ... some times quite the contrary, you usually have more to write off to offset.

Democrats like to tax people because they want to stay in power and are proponents of big government. If we get taxed heavily then that increases the amount that they can spend on their paychecks and the special earmarks in bills that will please their constituents and therefore they will stay in office.
So, now you know, dont vote for them.

why do republicans like making vastly generalized false statements about democrats?
without taxes we wouldn't have a government. and yes, the government is corrupt and doesn't seem to care about the middle class anymore, but we still need some form of working government in order to survive as a country.

I dont mind paying taxes, its my duty as an american citizen, but I agree that I dont understand why dems seem to think that those of us who can take care of ourselves should be punished for working hard by paying MORE taxes.
