I would not cut it up, dump it, or do any other thing that could damage it, because if I were your husband I would forbid you from buying a new couch even after you tossed the old one, just to spite you, just like you're doing because he told you no and you're wanting to destroy it just to spite him. That's not love.
I always tolerate it when my husband tells me know because I know that A) He loves me and doesn't tell me know without a good reason, and B) I want him to respect me for my intelligence, not fear or pity me for my tantrums. Sometimes I tolerate it better than other times, but that does not negate A or B.
You can hire someone to clean the couch professionally, and barring that, you can buy some quite beautiful sofa covers at fine home decor shops. You can even get on the internet and find some solutions to cleaning the leather yourself.
In short, don't risk a big blowout fight over a sofa. A sofa is nothing, and if your sofa means more to you than your man -- because that's the level of importance you're putting on it -- then you need to re-examine your heart.
Just trying to help,
Rebecca

I would have more sympathy for you if I could be sure you didn't put the marker pen on there yourself. However this is a PLAN- checkout Stain Devils online their Stain Devil No. 1 remover removes felt pen which may or may not work on you leather. If it makes a mess of the sofa you can at least say you tried, and I'm guessing its the pen that bugs you most. The other grubbiness can be cleaned ordinary see other answers.

May I presume you are not an American lady? American women don't usually ask this kind of Q because we pretty much do what we think best for our homes. Do you work outside the home? Do you, after owning for 4 yrs. just want a new one? If you have been asking for months, forget help from your husband!
If money is the problem....as it is with lots of us.....contact a leather/fabric manufacturer and ask for help with cleaning solutions. If $$ isn't the problem ---get the chain saw or hire a burglar who likes dirt.

I would talk to my husband about it in great detail... Why doesn't he want a new one? Is it finances? Can we compromise and buy a cover, they have some beautiful couch covers now, they make it look like new and I believe they even have fake or real leather. I would work with my husband on it until we reached an agreement. Otherwise, if you dump it or destroy it, it may cause some major issues in your relationship, that are not worth the couch.

Try saddle soap, available from any tack shop or shoestore. It should work, tho it may take some work and time to do the whole sofa. Bribe your neighbour's kids to help you (yours will probably refuse, your neighbour's will want to make some extra pocket money!)
If the marking pen doesn't come off, talk to a dry cleaner...it's amazing what they know how to clean! Especially if its one of those places that offers to clean carpets etc., they have all the secrets at their fingertips and might even sell you the product you need.

Get a pretty throw to cover it up. Make it a really girlie one, with lots of tassles. After a couple of weeks he'll be so fed up with tripping over it/tucking it in/smoothing it HE'LL be the one insisting on a new suite.

do you work? save up and buy on eyourself !!! Can your husband afford it at the moment - he may say no becasue there are more important things like bills to pay - if you have a suite that is comfy to sit on and you need to pay your gas and electric I know which I would prioritise !!!!!!!!!

try talking to him again and explain that you are embarrassed bcoz you dont want to cause an unnecessary argument, if he still refuses be independent and go get a new one with your own money and he cant say anything more about it....

i would dump it while he's at work and not buy another leather one. leather furniture sux. expecially cream colored. men don't understand aesthetics. if it's still functional to him, no matter what it looks like, he'll keep it.

take it you don`t work and he makes the money decisions. just keep bugging hell out of him he will end up getting bored surely. or do something else to it i.e drop something on it that will look awful and won`t come off.
