I was thinking of getting a pet stingray, as an exotic oceanworld pet, to study its habitat and life. Should I get one?

Yep, everyone thinks you're trying to joke about Steve Irwin. I believe you are serious. Here are a couple of websites you could check out. There are also fresh water stingrays you could get if you aren't experienced with keeping a salt water aquarium.
www.dmuratov.com/publications/hybridizing_stingrays
www.fwstingrays.com/basic_care.htm
www.aquariumfish.net/catalog_pages/wild/sting_rays.htm
www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/5590/care.html
Hope that helps, and sorry for everyones bad reaction to your question!
=)

There are some small breeds of stingrays that can be kept in an aquarium, it would still have to be a very large aquarium and there might be laws that say you cannot have them as a pet. You would have to look up the laws for where you live and how they feel about exotic sealife in homes. I thing that if you found out that they were legal and you had the means to take care of one then you should go for it. They are very beautiful when they are gliding around.

its is VERY VERY costly to own a sting ray. but there are some kinds of stingray wich you can pet, like the cownose stingray. but, if you get any kind of stingray you sould have a huge tank and tons of money for the food and mantaniance. please everyone stop thinking that this was a joke anyone can dream or try to have the pet they whant. Steve Irwin's incident was just some really bad luck. i hope this was useful to you. PS. sorry if i wrote something wrong or something; english is not my first language.

I hope that this is not a a question to be funny, ill give you the benefit of the doubt... some people do keep rays as pets, however you must remember that these fish GROW. Also, since stingrays are close relatives to sharks they tend to be sensitve animals and thus should be kept by experienced aquarist only. that being said if you have the experience, knock yourself out!

ha ha ha. after all this stuff about steve irwin..
Keep the stingrays in the ocean where they belong. They would not be happy in a 4x4 aquarium. If you want to study it's habitat and life go to a museum or something !

crikee! that is just ridiculous. do you really have the resources to take proper care of a stingray? i'd like a baby elephant, but i don't want to end up like bart simpson with his pet elephant, stampy! where would i keep an elephant?! where would you keep a stingray?! use some sense. if you want to study them, go to a zoo or aquarium, or go to the library to do some research. you don't need to own one to study them.

Sure, get a stingray. Make sure theres enough room in the tank so you can swim with it.
