Why do people refuse help? When someone gets offered help (finanacial or anything)?

from a guy or anyone, many people refuse and would rather suffer and go without in the name of being independent. What is so great about going without since no one is standing around getting impressed by your decision anyway. I have been told many times that you don't take help from a man because he will expect something, well I have found that the guys that will do nothing for you seem to explect stuff too. If I had someone offer to help me in my situation, I would take them up on it. Sometimes working just doesn't pay all the bills.

So what are you saying? If a boring, overweight guy who likes to sit around and watch tv offers to pick you up at work on a rainy night and take you home, you will let him sleep with you?

PRIDE is the answer you're looking for. Most people have that innate sense of wanting to do things on their own without help, regardless of the consequences. sometimes they are just afraid or belittled by asking someone for help since their problem might be something that could've been solved with a very simple solution. could be they don't want to have to put up with any demeaning rhetoric from the person that is offering the help. you know, the whole "i told you so" or what would you have done without me" sort of thing? that in conjunction with the notion that there ma be a time when that individual will drag this back to the surface looking for help themselves and have to point it out to the person that they helped them, now you should help me.

I think a lot of people refuse help due to pride or sometimes fear. they are afraid the person helping will look down on them or will expect something in return. At the very least they are afraid it will be thrown back in their face for the rest of their lives.
