Ok so you need everything for living:
Towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush.
Sheets,Duvet, pillows etc may be provided but it's worth checking
Pots, pans cutlery, glasses and dishes, chopping board and decent knives if it's self catered (don't get the expensive ones though they tend to go walk about in halls, starting out you probably want at least one small pan, two medium sized pans, a frying pan and an oven tray).
Ketlle and toaster is always good but again will get nicked
Laudry bag and drying rack can be useful (tumble driers can be expensive)
A minimal first aid kit is always good to have on hand as well.
Something to brighten up your room is not essential but can make it feel more you.
Easiest thing is to think about a typical day, what do you use at your parents house. You won't need any furniture though.
Other things you will need:
INSURANCE (Endsleigh is good and cheap for students)
TV licence if you are taking a TV
Your own bank account
For your course you will need the normal pens paper and files. They will give you a reading list when you get there so don't buy any books until you've seen that.
Good luck at univeristy.

haha what uni is it??
I got sent a list..
i also got a starter pack which had a load of stuff in it for free
Duvet, pillow, covers, sheets
cutlery and saucepans etc(remember slightly odd stuff like pizza cutter, sharp knife, potato masher, baking tray)
hi fi
a good diary
alarm clock
COMPUTER
coat hangers
don't send too many empty boxes home, they're good for stashing stuff under your bed..
may sound odd, but either a laundry basket / stash of bin bags for carrying dirty washing to the laundry!
stationery - although a pen and some paper will suffice for Freshers Week!
Towel / flannel
pictures and posters for your walls - from my experience they are like prison cells! Or if you're feeling rich from your loan (fat chance!) then we used to have poster sales at our union.
Some alcohol for that first night..
All the best, you lucky thing, wish I was going back!

Now I know I may be going out on a limb here but.... have you tried contacting the Uni itself? Or the Students Union at that uni, they do try to help out the 'Freshers' they do.
