Firstly, I don't take drugs - so this is my view on what I have seen through my work as a paramedic and a police officer.

Illegal drugs are highly addictive. People from ALL walks of life can become addicted. It is not just people that we may perceive as good for nothing low lifes If something has the power to make you feel good, it stands to reason that you are going to want MORE.

You would have to do some more research perhaps on the chemical reactions that drugs cause in the body but dependency on these drugs is swift.

I have come across people who have JUST TRIED it whilst at University and BINGO - they are addicted. They eventually lose interest in everything APART from the drug and in a lot of cases, get into debt and then start stealing or prostituting themselves to make enough money for their next fix.

Perhaps the website www.askfrank.com will help answer some of your other questions. It is a site that can answer many questions about drug addiction and types of drugs etc.

Good luck with your project - but don't EVER be tempted to try any of these drugs for yourself. It is just NOT WORTH IT.

In humans there is a tendency to feel the effect of altered state of consciousness in the mind that is different from normal day-to-day consciousness. This tendency is prevalent in all cultures from times immemorial. Substances or even non-substance can achieve this state, the latter associated with spiritual world (or religious practices/rituals). By consuming the drugs (substance) the person assumes supernatural status and pretends to oneself he or she could do or undo anything that cannot be realized in normal life. Another motive is to block out the outside reality. All substances that effect such changes are addictive giving scope for their abuse, ultimately leading to destruction of the user through deterioration of physical and mental faculties, disabling normal life in the society to carry out societal and other obligations. The urge to experiment and play with drugs is prominent and prevalent among youth. The root cause of addiction to drugs is experimental promiscuity coupled with ignorance, and comes next the escapist behavior that is sustained and aggravated in drug use leading to further abuse.

I think people take drugs because they think its "cool" and everyone else is doing them and maybe they want to be part of the crowd and join in but what they don't realise is the effects...

Also celebrites arn't giving a very good outlook on them i mean so many celebrites are doing drugs at the moment and they're fans think its cool so they want to be like them i mean kate moss she took drugs and then she got fired from all her sponsers but then she got back to them i think her fans look at her and think that it is ok to take drugs because how she is earning alot more money...

hope that helps.

For the same reason they go on roller-coaster rides, or drink alcohol, or have sex.

Drugs produce an chemical and emotional reaction in the body, like adrenaline or depressants or endorphins. People who want to feel a certain way, and don't know how to get there on their own, take drugs to help them get there.

I smoke cannabis and i do this to help relive my stress and when i do not smoke it i feel unhappy and angry, but my doctor told me that all it is doing is taking away the unhappiness for awhile and when i stop smoking it the feelings that i have before will come back twice as strong so i am cutting down and slowly giving up and i agree that my doctor is right because my cousin and her boyfriend smoke it and when they cant get any they fight with each other and when thy smoking it they don't so if you ask me i think they should split up

People use illegal drugs as a means of escape, from problems they are having in the present or things that happened in the past.

I 'm not a drug taker but my guess would be to escape; from problems, from life, from normal feelings. It's probably like any other overdosing habit like alcohol, overeating, shopaholic, etc. They all cover up some feelings the person doesn't want to deal with.

I think people take drugs because they like the way they feel on drugs.
