There is one pernicious ad that keeps popping up when my young children are on the Internet. I have tried blocking this site through Internet options, and eliminating it through adware and spyware sweeps. Even though I've blocked the site through Internet options by the address, it keeps getting through. It is just this one ad.

Use Firefox from http://www.getfirefox.com

Then install Extensions (Adblock and Filter G set)

with this combination 99% of ads will not appear when browsing.

And its free, more secure than using Internet Explorer.

Firefox is FAR better at blockin pop-ups than IE! Also, XP has a built-in firewall and Yahoo has a pop-up blocker that seems to work quite well.

When this used to happen to us, it was because a certain family member was surfing porn sites! After a stern talking to, configuring my Internet Options (see "Content") AND the above...oh, and emptying TIF's and blocking tracking cookies...*whew*!...we've had very few problems...and those only on allowed sites.

I was told by someone at Cyberangels.com, that porn distributors often target kid's sites because they don't have the kind of awareness of what to do (my kid got a Dragonball-Z audio porn that was triggered by just dragging the cursor over it...it was really, really disgusting, but he DID come and inform me of it!).

Anyway, training the PEOPLE who use the computer, is, IMO, at least as important as all the protection on the computer itself!

I am not sure what anti-spyware app you are using, but I would recommend Spybot Search&Destroy, it's free:

Unfortunately there are just some spyware/adware junk out there that you will need to manually remove instead of using an anti-spyware application.

Just like everyone else say, get Firefox, it has a built-in pop-up blocker. Visit the following page for free security software for your PC: http://www.cybertopcops.com/free-downloads.php

Sounds like spyware;
Spyware and pop ups are a common problem and will affect all computers if your computer is not protected.

Read this forum which details how to use various anti spyware tools, instructions on how to set them up and even provides support if you have anymore questions.
