I have a friend who has depression and is under medication. Her depression is caused by desperate for boyfriend unfortunately she is very picky. The problem is how to advise her not to be picky and how to encourage her to get rid of her depression.

I don't know how old is your friend but if her depression arises from desperate to have a boyfriend, i think it is not a good sign. No doubt everyone wants to have a healthy relationship but having a bf/gf is not the most important things in our life. there are many more important things in our life. As a friend, you should try to listen to her and communicate with her. At the same time, bring her to see a doctor to control her condition so that her condition is under control. What you need to do is that tell her there is no such thing as a perfect guy in this world, everybody had flaws and she must learn to accept this facts. If she can listen to you on this, I considered this as an improvement to her condition. the rest is really up to her own thinking already

As long as you're there for her she'll be able to work through it. Being a friend who, crucially, doesn't interfere too much is the most important thing. Its not your business to deal with depression in the clinical sense but its important to help her deal with the social aspects of it i.e. desperation. Best of Luck!

Depression is never for not having a boyfriend...that's not true. so you cannot help her, if she has really a depression she needs to be under psychiatric treatment. It is the only thing which will help her
