Because people have this idea that being accepted into a CC isn't as prestigious as being accepted into a 4 year school. Four year colleges often have strict guidelines one has to meet to be accepted, whereas the criteria for getting into a CC aren't as strict. Because of this, many people think that only 4 year college rejects go to CC, but this isn't true.
I started out at a 4 year college on an honor's scholarship and I hated it. So I quit and now I go to CC. My tuition is wayyyyyyyy cheaper and I'm still getting a degree which will further my job opportunities, so what does it matter what school I went to? And you know what? My classes at CC are actually *harder* than the ones I was taking at four year college, and my fellow students are much more mature and hard-working than the ones I was with at 4 year college. Go figure!
It doesn't matter what school you go to, what matters is that you go *somewhere* and work hard no matter what!

It has to to with the common perception that community colleges are the higher education of last resort, that is, if you can't get into a 4-year college, you fall back on going to a community college.
This is a stereotype, it is sometimes true but very often not. There are all kinds of good reasons to go to a community college! Money, time, job, family, course availability, geographic location...

Don't worry about it. Keep your grades up and enter a 4 year institution. Get your degree, and then flip those who sneer at you, the bird. OI started at the cc level and have had my graduate degree for some years now. Not all of us had the resources to start off at a 4 year school right from the get-go.

I have no idea - my brother and sister are both going to community colleges this coming year. Neither of them have had problems with it.
