well I'm from the UK and we need to break that addiction for the same reasons as you.

the price we are getting the oil for is affecting out policies. Arabs with their western advisers in the employ are telling them to buy into the western property markets which our governments don't like since this will affect future foreign policy out of their possible interests of the day.

in fact we are already getting a taste of policy swaying now and even though our people in the negotiating parties who deal with oil acquisitions are clever and selling military equipments which will go out of date easily, the Arabs are starting to see through it and want cash, or property.

that may sound to them, and indeed it is. but we dont want it.

anyways to some extent the governments are feeling the pressure about global warming and the affects we are already seeing. scientists from every country are atop every soup box shouting about it and the republicans know it will be a MASSIVE issue in the 2008 elections even without GORE!!

Drill in ANWAR. The part wear the drilling will take place is a frozen wasteland. Also, the pipeline spurs caribou population growth, because of the warmth.

Also, do more research into alternative fuels, such as E85. Right now, ethanol is only cheaper than gas because of government subsudies.

Producing more nuclear energy is a great idea. It is very clean and generates a lot of power. The only problem with nuclear power was Chernobyl, but that was Soviet built, need I say more?

Solar power sounds great on the surface, but for producing large amounts of energy, solar power just isn't the solution right now. It takes up too much space for it to be worth it. Solar panels on things like traffic lights, however is a great idea.

Redirect the taxes on gasoline and fuel oils into a fund to promote the development of infrastructure to support hydrogen fuel cell production. I think it is time that the ability to tax gas locally be eliminated in favor of this standard federal tax. Due to the increase in property tax values of homes nationwide, local government coffers are now bringing in enormous amounts of money that more than make up for the loss of gas tax revenue.

Open up ANWR and coastal waters for exploration and drilling. That includes the coast off of Kennedy's compounds, too.

Support more efforts into alternative energy sources.

Stop the enviro-wankers from preventing the building of nuclear plants.

Stop the enviro-wankers from preventing the building of more refineries.

Increase the gas tax to pay for some of this stuff. Higher fuel costs will ultimately force people to reduce their usage and seek alternatives.

alternative energy sources, wind, solar, hydrogen powered cars, bio-fuel. i thought those were ideas many people proposed, but if you want to give republicans all the credit, so be it. i am tolerant of your wish to do so.

Drill in Alaska and off the coast of Florida.

E-85 is a myth because it has been shown, according to this month's issue of Consumer Reports, to LOWER gas mileage.

Oh, and learning to spell "dependency" wouldn't hurt, either.
