No.
Even if the barb was (somehow) still in, his chances at living would be minimal. Even if it didn't pierce his heart, it might have pierced his lungs and broken Major arteries.

He should not have been in the water with a un clipped stingray to start with. He was not trained in this area. I am so sure he was a great guy and it is a very sad thing that happened. But when messing with an animal you are not trained to work with you can expect this to happen. It is a shame for his family that he was arrogant enough to think just because he was a TV star he could do anything. Stingrays do not attack unless provoked. I have seen him provoke deadly snakes on TV and provoke crocks was his high light.
It is a shame but he was over confident in his abilities. He did know better and if he did pull the barb out on his own it is even more proof he did not know what he was doing. However it would not have mattered in that case he would have died anyway.
And for those who say it don't matter if he was trained or not and as well tell me that he could have been impaled in the foot and still lived that is not the point here. There are ways to aproch a deadly beast and it is not by being cool. Being cool will end up in someone getting hurt. He was out of line in most of his stunts and yes thay were stunts to make ratings.

well it all depends cuz they have toxins and who knows how long it takes to get to the hospital. and even if he survied that part you get infections and who knows what else so its hard to say and besides he probally knew what he was doing. and they say if it would be a while before you could get medical attention take the barb out so. no one would be able to tell you cuz it depends on the person. and if it cut a hole in his heart on the way in it would have killed if either way most likely. i don't think there realy is a textbook answer. stingrays attack when they feel tharetened. they would be scared if you walk near them. so it can't be said that he provked it. you could be swiming in the water and they can sting you. do u need to be trained about them to go swiming
RIP steve

Some animals have eyes on the top e.g. the sting ray. They are either submerged or spend a lot of the time at the bottom. Others have them on the sides. If God wanted us to look backwards, our eyes would have been at the back of our heads. Speculating on "what might or could have been" is counterproductive. Far better to just move on: that's how humans are structured - with eyes in front.

Sting rays barbs don't come off, and they say it was a large male bull which weighed in the neighborhood of 200 lbs. It would be a little hard to take the ray with you........

No, because I believe it wasn't the loss of blood that killed him but the poison from the Sting Ray that did it. They say it's rare but it must have hit him in just the right spot.
:( I'm quite sad about it... Everytime he's gone out I'm sure everyone knew he was taking a risk..but this was so random no one was prepared.... :(
I could be completely wrong about the poison thing...I know that it does emit poison though, whether its strong enough, I have No clue....

I heard it didn't peirce his heart, I heard that it punctured his chest right NEXT to his heart.
Either way it probably would have helped to keep it in, though it would've been pretty tricky...

If it was stuck in his heart, pulling it out would have accelerated the bleeding.

probably...but what is unclear from the narrative is whether the barb was still attached to the stingray.
