HMMMMM!! SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT????!!!!!!

Let's say I break into your house

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!!

It explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and
I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a
fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America....if you agree, pass it on (in English). Share it if you see the value of it as a good smile. If not blow it off along with your future Social Security funds, and a lot of other things.

This assumes you are the single owner of this home, and that your opinion in this house is the only one that matters. Reality is that, to correct your analogy, there should be 300 Million people living in your home and, because it is a democracy, each one of those 300 Million has a say. I vote, let them stay if they are use full and productive.

I also motion that the other 2 Million people, foreign or not, who are in prison and being unproductive and useless, should be kicked out of OUR home.

Getting old. I don't agree. If you and your family are fed and have a place to live, medical insurance. And are in good health, then say your thanks and get on with your life. Why must people dwell on this matter so much. If it isn't the Mexicans, it'll be the Chinese, if it isn't the Chinese, it'll be the Koreans. This Country is Rich and spends their money stupidly. Quit finding a reason to point fingers. The people you are mad at are lounging in their million dollar mansions, being served martinis (probably by a immigrant)

I can not agree with the analogy. If what you are saying is true, none of us deserve be here unless we are native Americans. America is built by immigrants. That is the truth and no matter what anyone says would change it. Without immigrants, there simply would not be an identity for America at all.

A better analogy of the situation could be that America is a land owned by a extremely rich man. He has a staff of executives, clerks, and laborers to keep his land active and function. Yet, his land is so vast that he could not possibly keep out any visitor that wander into his land. Eventually, some laborers in search of better life stop by his land, and find patches of land that no one is willing to work on. Take care of it and mke them their own.

When the rich man finds out about it, even though he doesn't need the land, he decides to kick the laborers of his land simply because he could and the law is with him. Whatever perils the laborers are in is simply none of his business.

While I support immigrants in general, I do not condone some things some immigrants are proposing such as having multiple languages as official languages. The reason that immigrants are immigrants is that they are in a foreign land and trying to make life better for their children and themselves. Transplanting homeland is not the way to do it. If every immigrant does that, how is America supposed to function? America is a melting pot, not a storage of ingredients.

Also, a lot of assumptios in the question is wrong. Immigrants don't get benefits because they do not have the legal rights to do so. Illegal immigrants pay taxes with fake IDs but can't get on any welfare programs. The only benefits is offered to immigrants is education, which we can't afford not to give since we do not want immigrants' children to become criminals that we have no ways of tracking if they don't exist on paper.

On the other hand, this country is in serious need of high-tech workers, who often have to venture through complicated immigration system to even have valid visas to work in US. With the constant 'brain drain' to other countries without a fresh supply of highly capable workers, America will not be able to afford its life style within a few decades.

Immigrantion is a highly complex issue. If you are passionate about it, do some serious research before forming your opinion. America is at the crossroads. How America will continue on depends squarely on our shoulders.

Those people who "broke into your house" wouldn't have done any work if they weren't paid by other people in the house. Shouldn't they be held responsible?
