What kind of countrified rube still thinks that a member of Muqtada Al Sadr's Al Mehdi Army going off to kill civilians in a Sunni neighborhood in Baghdad gives a rat's snotball or is even aware of what rights are granted in the US Constitution? And if the Iraq War really is the central front in World War III between Christianity and Islam why has President Bush never asked us to do anything more than go shopping?

Any true believers out there, can you elaborate or back up the belief that the Sunnis and Shiites are in civil war because they hate OUR freedom?

Hockey, Guns, and Beer; I do think that Islamic militants hate everything Western---but Muqtada Al Sadr controls 30 seats in the Shiite dominated Iraqi-elected government. He's sending out his militia to kill Sunnis because he can, and the Sunnis hate us too.

I believe it is an over simplification of the situation. The fundamentalist hardcore Muslims hate anything western and are willing to die to destroy it and to prevent its influence from spreading.

The civil war is occurring because those western ideals are trying to stand up a democratic government that runs counter to Islamic fundamentalism. The bombing of Muslims from different sects is a means to an end (the destruction of the USA and its influence around the world) and not the end itself.

Well lets look at it like this, If they hate our freedom, then they are succeeding as our bill of rights is raped in the *** by the our current government.

So really, while our government tells us it's for safety, all they are doing is taking away what little defense WE have against our government.

I mean, read the preamble to the bill of rights some time. It makes it pretty clear that the bill of rights is NOT because it seems like the right thing. It is NOT because we need privacy. It has nothing to do with principles. It makes it clear that the bill of rights is there to protect us from the government.

Nonsense, the war is not about the issues as you believe. The war is about interference and support of poor leaders such as Sadam by the US. We have tried to manipulate governments in many areas by supporting dictators that were essentially puppets to US policies...Noreiga, the Shah of Iran, Chiang Kai Shek, Ngo Dien Diem, etc etc. Those men were out for money and power and we supplied them with the means. Now, those poor and beaten down are beginning to see that they have been screwed by both the US and some of their own kind. During our tenure in the Philippines, we supported Marcos who drained billions of dollars from the people and the people are still in an economy of the 1960s and life is tough. It is time to re-think our policies. After Panama regained control of their own country, the US thought they would fail and need American help...it didn't happen and the economy of Panama has improved. It is not jealous of our freedom but a desire to be independent of the US.

The war in Iraq is taking place because we invaded. Plain and simple. I think Sunni's & Shiites are involved in civil war due to a power struggle, if they hate anything about us I think it's just because we're still there.

Maybe you need to substitute the words "fundamentalist intolerant Christianity" for the argument to make any sense.
