The hotels in the down town area are the cheapest ones... you can still take buses to the beaches and it is pretty close. They have some hotels right on the beaches that include all you can eat meals, drinks and all in the prize. There are way too many hotels in Cancun, it is worth doing some research on them all.

Dont stay at Cancun!! Cancun is like any american city with palm trees and water!!! Stay in Playa Del Carmen... Much more culture there along with the shopping and food/bars.
We stayed in Akumal 2 months ago. I would suggest that area if you $$$'s to spend on lodging. We went to playa on our last night there.. Have we went there earlier in the trip.....We would have spent everyday there. The Blue Parrot is one bar on the beach...great place!!!!

best hotel then cheap? that's not easy!!!

the best is ritz carlton cancun of course.

hotel riu cancun is okay, 3 star.
