if you want to declare yourself bankrupt you have to get the forms from your local county court and when you have filled them all in go back to the court with them pay the fee which is about £425 and then after they have checked thought them you go in front of a judge who decides if the bankruptcy should go ahead if he says OK you then have to go a see a official receiver and that's it, but beware if you have anything of value they will take it off you sell it and give the money to your debtors

The most useful website which should answer all your questions is www.insolvency.gov.uk, it answers all questions, has advice leaflets and you can fill in some of the bankruptcy paperwork online.

For further advice speak to your local CAB or CCCS (Consumer Credit Counselling Service) - don't speak to any 'debt management companies' who charge for their services, they will tell you not to go bankrupt as they won't make any money off you if they do.

I wouldn't approach the county court for advice as they are not usually friendly or helpful. You can only be made bankrupt at a county court, not a magistrates court, you can find your local county court at www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk.

The fee for going bankrupt is £475, but you will only pay £325 if you are in receipt of Income Support, Disability Living Allowance etc. (proof of benefit is required)

Hope this helps?
