its really sad. he was so young. had a wife and two kids. he was way too young to die. and what a death?! wow. that must of been really scary.
when i first heard i was like, 'no way, this is some type of joke.'
but it was real. it was all over the news and in papers and online. its really sad. i grew up watching his shows. i thought and still do think that he is by far the bravest animal man ever.
may he rest in peace.

I think its sad that he's left behind two kids, 1 too young to remember his father, and a wife who now has to survive the grieving process and raise two kids without the man she chose. He'll be missed publicly but thats the real tragedy there.RIP Steve
Umm fyi Acquaneta K : his daughter's name is Bindi Sue, Benji was a dog from disney movies.

Ironically shocking. Not surprising that he'd die given what he does for a living but still shocking. Feel badly for his family, particularly the kids, but I'm sure he instilled an appreciation for the risk of his work so...
I feel worse for the kids who died in an apt. fire in Chicago from a candle they used for light. No electricity. That's really freakin sad.

Ironic.
It's like the war hero who comes home and dies from a slip in the bathtub.
He's done plenty of things that were far more dangerous than swimming NEAR a stingray.
I've done that and have never felt any danger.
There's even a place in the Caribbean where you can swim with, pet and feed stingrays in the wild.
Bottom line: This was a FREAK accident.

It was just a matter of time I think...with all the crazy stuff he did. It is sad though :( No more hearing him say "CRIKEY! Look at the size of that one!"

shocked, just utterly shocked. I'm overwhelmed by the loss. It's good, educational shows like that and Jeff Corwin's show, that I enjoy watching with my son and learning by them and don't change the channel during commercials because we would discuss what we were watching. Such a tragedy.

Very sad -- watched him with my kids all the time. But at least he dies doing what he loved to do. He knew there was risks involved. This reinforces what regular people shouldn't do!!
Rest In Peace Steve

My heart is broken, he taught me many things on his documentaries. My heart goes out to farther and Terri, his wife and daughter Benji and his little son. I know Wes, Steve's side kick is hurting as many others that have worked with Steve. He will be missed but never forgotten.

He is a victim of ratings. Always pushed (by himself and producers) to do more dangerous and inappropriate stunts. He was very skilled with crocs and in the outback, but way out of his element in the ocean. He was reckless and did not take appropriate precautions. His death is sad and easily preventable.
