I'm 47 and I've been struggling with sleep for YEARS. I have limited or almost eliminated caffeine, I exercise, I have carefully modified my diet, and still finding a solid night's sleep has been elusive. My doctor perscriped a powerful medicine, Trazadone, which works, but it's a drug. I KNOW that regular use of that could become a problem. Now I take a small dose (3mg) of Melatonin each night, and I feel like I've found the answer. Is there a down-side to Melatonin? It seems to work beautifully. I'm wondering if I'm overlooking something.

No, you don't have to worry about dependency. This is a very safe way to go when it comes to sleep disorder. The only thing you have to watch out for are mixing melatonin with meds for high blood pressure, anti depressants, and corticosteroids.

CTMEDS is right. Melatonin is antagonist with what ctmeds say, i.e. high blood pressure drug, etc.
By the way, would you like to try such alternative treatment such meditation? When someone come to meditate, his brain gets more relax, and melatonin will be produced automatically by your brain ( If i not mistaken, it will be produced by specific glands below brain).
You can search for the way how to meditate in bookstore. It may help you to reduce your drug consumption.

Melatonin does work, however, I have heard that too much of it will cause your body to stop producing as much melatonin and then you will HAVE to take it to go to sleep.
