Consider Bellingham, WA .. it is an hour and a half north of seattle, 20 minutes south of CAN border, an hour from Vancouver, BC.

Mt Baker (and skiing, etc) are a half hour away. If you like watersports and boating its all there. Lots of parks, bike trails. It has cultural events, excellent schools, and the cost of living is lower than seattle.

Those should give you some info.
Do search's on whatever city you choose and you will find a lot of info online. Also contact the local chamber of commerce for info.

In regards to Bellingham, I moved there from Oregon "cold" .... just chose it off a map ... and never had any regrets!

Washington is a very large state with very different cities. Seattle will be very different than Spokane which is very different than Long Beach which is very different than Vancouver. Your best bet is to decide on a climate and an industry you are interested in and go from there. Good luck to you. : )

zillow.com will give you prices of homes in any big city.
As for schools, the only good way I know of it to ask around. When you get it narrowed down, maybe ask a question here and see what people say about certain school districts.

Wenatchee or Bellingham would be rediculous.
The Seattle area is your best bet. My favorite area in Seattle is Magnolia.
