PS: I've been around TONS of stingrays... I had NO idea this could happen. I've pet them, fed them... swam by them... WOW... really makes you think. My heart and prayers goes out to his family and friends.

Mmmm, that's just too grim. The lesson here is simply to avoid going too close to any wild creature, particularly the part that can injure or kill.

What I will say is that it was a freak accident. Most stinger contacts only smart, but this one essentially poked Mr. Irwin directly in the heart.

The video may be released shortly after the police are done with it. There are those who say those were his wishes. However, the family can make sure that never happens if they fear it will effect his children.

As for you, he was near a coral reef giving him little maneuverabilty and so he took a barb in the chest that apparently nicked his heart. They say he might have survived if he didn't pull it out of his chest. That is about all you will learn from the tape.

And it is not sadistic to swim in the ocean unless you are wearing blood flavored cosmetics. This was just being in a bad spot at the wrong time. Try and avoid that.

I find this a bit odd...you want to see the death of Steve Irwin via video released on the net yet you send hopes and prayers to his family??!! something wrong with the thinking here...

It should not be released onto the web but with people thinking wow! gosh would love to see that it sadly inevitably will be...to say that you want to know what not to do around stingrays is very simple and anyone just anyone who has ever been in a position to touch, feed, swim with these or any other dangerous creatures should have been told that these are not cute cuddly pets....feeding them is a stupid thing encouraged by resorts around the world as tourists "like it". Rays hide in sand and get stepped on they thensting using the vicious barb that tends to hit men (and women) in the chest killing prety much straight away. Also if you see a stone fish touch it and you die before you reach the surface the sea is not filled with cute things but thing sbuilt to survive. I am sorry for Steve's family but...just the other day he was on TV getting bit by a cobra after atagonizing the poor thing, I have very little doubt that he did somethin to p*ss the ray off to make it attack - that was his "speciality" and made him rich but on the whole rays are quiet calm and do not attack - but please god don't ask to see the video that is a genre known as snuff movies in another world...

i havent seen the video, but they had Mr. Ron Magill he is the man in charge of the zoo in Miami, on the radio. He said that this was a freak accident and the chances of it ever happening again are soooo slim. There have been about 10 deaths ever recorded from stingrays, the deaths come from people who are actually allergic to the toxin of the stingray ( just like a bee sting could kill someone) and really old people whos body cant handle the poison, and the majority of these happen when people step on the sea ray as they in the water, So feel safe and swim with them all you want.

It won't be released for a while if at all because it is evidence in the official police investigation of the incident. Personally, I don't want to see it. I do not like the idea of watching someone die. What happen was a complete & utter fluke...a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I don't think it should be released out of respect for him and his family. I have also touched sting rays and they are a gorgeous animal and wonderful to swim with. I seriously dont' believe that Steve or Terri would want the world to see this clip. It is like the Dale Earnhardt---wanting his autopsy photos released......let Steve rest in peace.

It's not released, nor should it be. It's a private matter. He, too, was swimming in very shallow water which is probably what did him in.
