I am a structural engineer intern actually, and it is a very rewarding job being able to be part of the building design process and being able to look at the finished project and say "I helped design that". I went to school at Oklahoma State University school of Architecture and there both the Architecture and Arch. Eng. degrees were closely related, so I was able to gain perspective from both sides. The program is very demanding, and even after you graduate you have to intern for four years before taking the PE exam to get licensed, and the test is extremely difficult (about 35% passing rate in our state currently).
The bright side is, if you graduate from a nationally recognized program, you will be guaranteed a job seeing as how there are more SE's retiring nowadays than there are entering the profession. The pay is decently above average of you just want to be an engineer, but should you choose to work for yourself or become a stockholder and principal designer in your company, you will be pretty well off. Plus, it's fun being out on the jobsite seeing the building go up.

You know, planning like this being the age you are(undergraduate) is not very safe these days.

Reports show that our genration will have 6 major job changes compared to our parents who averaged 1 job.

So basically dont waste your money on a degree, everybody these days have a degree, I have a degree. Just start a business or become an entreprenuer if you wwant to be rich. Giving 100,000 dollars for a peice of paper is overated.
