Aquariums (especially reef and saltwater) are beautiful and by setting one up you will also teach yourself chemistry and biology. Beware, though, they're highly addictive (and might suck your husband and kids into the hobby as well).
Blogging is also online and can be social.
Video blogging (taking a video clip of yourself each day) can also be fun and educational.
You could teach yourself website design...
... or go to the library and randomly pick out books until you find something that piques your interest.
Coffee shops can be fun places to hang out (with a good book)- especially if they're independent and have a good crowd of other bored regulars (I've made alot of friends this way).
Browsing myspace or youtube can have the same effect as the library- helping you find things which pique your interest...
You could try photography...
... a zillion and one things to do!
I know, it gets boring and lonely...

You have said very little about yourself other than that you are 43 and the mother of two children. Since it is unknown as to what hobbies you have, it is difficult to answer your question straight away. Since you have posted your question on the net, it may be presumed that you are somewhat net savvy. The net offers interesting opportunities for business and pleasure for housewives who have a lot of time in their hands. You can surf the net to delve into interesting sites about which you want to know more or those about which you know nothing. You can find friends and chat too. You may also undertake jobs and businesses on the net. There are many of those. You have to be selective and prudent. Other than computers or internet, you may find interest in gardening, teaching young children, cooking or anything else you fancy. Age is no bar to any of these. You only need time and some interest, both of which you have. Whatever it is, I would be very interested to know about your ultimate choice.

find something you are talented with and go with it. If you cant think of anything you may be good at then start something you may be interested in, learn to draw, write, keep a journal, you know a diary, many good books have been written by people just like you keeping a journal of their lives, and made it into a book, Take up knitting, yes even knitting, its not just for old women, LOL LOL. There are so many things ill bet, you are good at but didnt know how to start your passion. Try that and hope it gave you some ideas. Take care. good luck!

Why don't you sit down and write a list of your favorite things to do....now and in the past (as long as they don't conflict with your marriage)? Do you have many friends? Do you like crafts, gardening, etc.? There has to be something you like. Write down all your interests and go from there!
