Many years ago an out-of-town boyfriend of my ex-wife's friend stayed with us for a while. While with us, he was a royal pain in the butt and freeloaded everything with a BS story that he would take care of everything he owed when some cash he was expecting came in. In the end he cost us a small fortune, and left us with a huge phone bill too. I was understandably pissed.

About a year later, he blew back into town on a business trip and called me up needing a ride somewhere. I guess he figured I was an easy touch for his chauffeur. But understanding the old saying; keep your friends close, but your enemies closer, I agreed to meet him and give him a ride.

I drove him around NYC for the evening, and he met with many people conducting his "business," and I just kept quiet. By the end of the evening, he was quite drunk and wasted, and was unconscious when we arrived back at his hotel. I had the doorman help him out of the car and up to his room when I noticed that a big wad of cash had fallen out of his pocket onto the floor of the car. It was several grand.

I left.

The next day he called me frantically and asked if I had seen the money. I said I hadn't. He called me a liar and I didn't deny that, but told I would kick his butt if he said that to my face. He apologized and begged me to help him find the money. Of course I'm sure he knew I had it, but I wasn't about to give it back, and I didn't feel I owed him any explanation.

Right after that, I never heard from him again.

I felt he got what he deserved and that this happened as a result of his actions. "I felt that what went around came around." And I still do. Anyway, that's probably the worst one I've ever told, and it was more than 30 years ago.

When I was younger I used to look after my next-door neighbours' pet gerbils when they went away on holiday - they bred them and had loads in lots of different hutches/runs/whatever they live in. One hutch had a pregnant female in it who had lots of babies while they were away.

Another of the gerbils escaped and I put it back in the wrong hutch where it promptly ate all of the gerbil babies. I denied all knowledge of the incident to my neighbours when they came home and suggested that perhaps that particular gerbil had had a phantom pregnancy?....
