At the risk of violating some utterly unfathomable philosophical observation, from a practical standpoint, that old saying should have been buried with the old sayer. If nothing were ever explained, humans would still be living in the stone age. The only reason for refusing to explain anything is because one doesn't understand it himself.

"The problem with explaining is really that, not only is it a waste of time, but in actuality you may be doing the recipient of your explanation a disservice. They are asking for an explanation, after all, because they can't figure out what you know by themselves. They are looking for a shortcut to knowledge. But there are no shortcuts to knowledge. Why should i explain?. Besides, i don't know- which is the only reason i need.
