Well, it depends what you mean by cheap. Reasonable budget hotels are mainly around Sussex Gardens, Paddington. It's a tube journey to Covent Garden, unforntunately. Try the Cardiff Hotel, Norfolk Square, off London St, Paddington. 0207-723-3513. You can usually haggle to £45 on a single room and it's friendly. Or try the hotels in Cartwright Gardens, Bloomsbury, which may be a bit nearer.

Travelodge Covent Garden. Very cheap for London. www.travelodge.co.uk - rooms from £25! Can't get much better than that!

Thistle hotels are a good value for the money. I am staying at the Thistle Charing Cross in SoHo which is not too far from Convent Garden.
