It kinda depends on the school. I'm sure that schools like Yale or Harvard probably have better choices than other schools, but I've eaten at Montclair State and Rutgers in NJ and they're just about on par with High School cafeteria food. One semester at Montclair I ate virtually nothing for 2 weeks after I had the flu just because the food was so nasty. Most schools will have a restaurant or diner on campus that will have better food options, but the cafeteria food at most schools will be subpar at best, though there should be plenty of choices between subpar food.

No, I think college cafeteria food is better, there are more chances that a popular company will work with the school so we have more options, I can have Subway sandwiches and Starbucks coffee, but the cafeteria has a smoothie shop, a burger joint, a pizza place, a healthy soup, salad and fruit place, coffee and another place I can't recall at the moment. You can also simply bring your own lunch and heat it at the microwaves. I much prefer college eating and all of the options I have. Food isn't bad either.

Of course, every school will be different at either level, but I generally found my college dorm cafeteria food to be very edible. Not haute cuisine, to be sure, but decent meals. On-campus eateries were more along the lines of standard fast food fare.

Granted, my memories are getting fuzzy, as I graduated from high school in the antedeluvian year of 1989, but there was, at least back then, a notable quality difference.

It might be worse for you, but not really worse taste wise. As stated, there is usually a greater variety of food offered- one campus I went to school at had Subway, Pizza Hut, sushi, a grill, a "comfort food" section and a salad and sandwich bar. So you could get your fix. Just be mindful of prices and portion size- be good to your body in college, it'll carry you through some serious stress.
Take care!

College is typically better than High School. Because you actually pay for the meal plan. Good college offer a buffet style, get what you want. I like my college food, it was WAY better than high school. Make sure you go to orientation when you select your college! its important.

All levels of educators are now aiming to provide a healthy, well balanced meal plan in order to combat the growing numbers of obese students. Any college you pick should have a much better plan than traditional high school fare.

It really depends on the school. If they have recently had budget cuts then the food will be a bit lacking. I went to a college where they used leftovers for days. And I went to another one where they had full service resteraunts on campus. So...it depends!

Nope. It is a lot better. There is tons of variety. Plus, with the competing for students, some of the schools hire really good chefs and really try to get students in...for an 18 year old, really if it's not sex sells...it's food sells, right?

No. It is usually better because college kids often have meal plans that let them eat wherever they want and the school has to make an effort to keep them at the dining halls.
