Hi, travelling to Turkey next week, and want to avoid extra fees on travellers cheques. Can anybody suggest a good chain of banks?

always use your debit card, there is very little charge and you don't lose your money on the rates
and don't carry your all money with you
I am Turkish
and hope you will have a great time :)

Nope. Exchanging US travellers cheques, especially euro cheques, are always subject to high fees. My best advise would be to visit an American Express branch in Turkey.

Better you just take your ATM card....the banks there are so slow...might take you an hour or more to get Turkish money....been there twice...in 1970 and 1993...maybe its better...I like an ATM card better....

You will get a higher rate if you change it on the black market....if you have US$....its relatively safe.....know your exchange rates....its easy to find on the net or in the International New York Times paper...you will probably gain at least another 4-5% over the banks....

I am gonna give you the best advice you are gonna get before going on this trip..DO NOT TAKE TRAVELLERS CHECKS TO EUROPE, THEY ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO CASH AND RESTAURANTS HATE THEM.. there, I have said it.. bring a debit card and use it at the local banks..no the fees are minimal, and you get the Bank Buying and Selling rates of the day..

happy travelling.. heed my warning..

You normally pay a small fee to get them, but you aren't usually charged to cash them in. Any hotel or bank will do it.

You don't want to go to a bank at all to do that. The best value for your checks are in a hotel you are staying,or go to the bank that issued them if you are in Istanbul,Ankara or Izmir
