I think its because your always thinking "what if" and how things might have been so u keep this small hope that they will come back to u and things could be as good as u built them up in your mind to be but fact is they can't be or it would have worked out the first time. So u just put their memory somewhere in your heart remember the good stuff and let go of the idea of ever getting back with them

I think it is because they leave a place empty inside your heart. It will always make us reflect back and wonder what if.
