Is it normal for my 3 month old daughter to fight her sleep? When shes tired she will move her head back and forth really fast, and wine around until she falls asleep.

Yes it is normal. Around 3 months they're starting to realize that there's a world out there beyond a bottle... and they want to see it. They want to see you, they want to see the walls, they want to see the TV.. they're starting to have a longer range of vision, and they don't want to sleep.

Try putting her in bed while still a little awake, make sure there are no stimulants.. mobiles, music (unless they put her to sleep).. and let her fight sleep in her crib. This will help her develop self soothing behavior, and she will fall asleep sooner than if you hold her and let her fight it.

yep, perfectly normal. She's starting to learn how to interact with the world around her, and she doesnt want to sleep because she wanted to see and experience more new things.

She'll keep this up for the next few years. Actually, ive known kids who threw tantrums while fall asleep clear into kindergarden age. The world is jsut a very exciting place when your'e young.

Oh yes, that is absolutely normal! Some babies drift off to sleep easily, some have a tough time and fight it to the last second. She will likely grow out of this as she gets older, don't worry too much.

Some children are like that. My daughter was, her pediatrician assured me not to worry about it. She is four now and is actually a good sleeper. I did end up sleep training my daughter, which I know is a controversial thing, but for us it was the best thing I could have done. I strongly feel it gave her the good sleep habits she has now. But unless she is full out screaming I wouldn't worry too much about it and would let her put herself to sleep.

My daughter is 3.5 months and man......this whole fighting sleep thing can be frustrating, lol. She has never slept through the night, but fortunately she has pretty much distinguished her nights and days, and is sleeping a bit more at night. Only thing is: she fights her sleep like there is no tomorrow! lol. I am glad you posted this, b/c this has encouraged me. Glad to see that other mommies have gone or is going through the same "normal" thing. Good luck and congrads.

Yes. My son did this for months. Although, he had to be swaddled for a few months, he would move his head side to side repeatedly at sleep times in his swaddle. We would call it his Stevie Wonder routine. It was just his way to unwind and fall asleep on his own.

Every baby does that. They don't want to fall asleep and miss anything! Even when they're 5 weeks old. Trust me..........my child never wants to miss a thing!

I don't think she is fighting the sleep. It's just her way of letting you know that she wants to sleep.

MY SON USED TO DO THIS I thought he was almost afraid to go to sleep. I started putting him to sleep in my arms and I felt like he was compforted by me so he fell asleep quicker and slept better

When they get overtired, they fight sleep.......so when you first see that shes starting to get tired, put her down for bed. It might take a little while for her to adjust, but have patience.
