It is just as insulting!
I have been thin all my life and people have always said that to me.
I guess they are jealous but they wouldn't like it if we said to them "boy, you are so fat!"

No it is not! If you walk up to a skinny person and say, hey your skinny! In a mocking tone. The skinny person will just laugh and say, yea AND your point is? It is not as effective as walking over to a overweight person and calling them fat. The overweight person might run away crying or they may insult you back or they might sit on you and fart.....

Opinions are like *******, everybodys got one. If you don't want to hear these opinions then stay home! But don't use the internet because people can still insult you!

The better question is: why do people let people they don't know bother them? Why show them you are very weak and give them so much power? You most likely won't see them again so who cares!

Oh and P.S. What does it feel like to put your head up your a$$? I only weigh 100lbs. Usually the people that take offense to being called skinny are stupid, insecure, non-confident highschool girls with no friends!

Oh and the last thing is this: if you really want to compliment people do NOT speak of their weight, choice of clothes, or lifestyle. Just talk to them like a human being.

I don't understand why people call others skinny when there are so many other more polite words. I would much rather be called slender than full-figured but you're right, skinny is rude. Just take it in the spirit intended. If people just want to compliment you, accept it but try to suggest a more polite way of saying it. If people are just jealous because you're thin, don't worry too much; some day they'll find bigger problems. If you are anorexic, get help. If you would just like a little more shape to your shape, exercise and diet is the way to go.

Many people today are overweight, and think being thin is good. Maybe they are trying to be nice -- if so, say thank you. Or, maybe they are jealous. Maybe they're just plain mean. If that's the case, that's THEIR problem, so let them own it. You just be you, and be happy.

As someone who has been skinny my whole life, I decided not to be insulted when someone acknowledged my weight, no matter if they were trying to be nice or not. If you are happy with your weight, that's all that matters. If you want to gain more, I know that can be just as hard as dieting. But it can be done.

The bottom line is, to be happy, you've got to make the decision not to be insulted. Otherwise you're letting these people steal your joy.

I understand you because i am very slim as well. But enjoy life, so many people silently wish to be in your shoes. Just ignore them comments and show them that you are pleased with the way you are. If you feel shy and embarrassed about your figure it sends out a bad self-esteem.

I think sometimes it is insulting and sometimes not. Lots of girls yearn to be extremely thin and they love being referred to as 'skinny'. I think it's the girls that are naturally thin, that hate the term skinny, would I be right in thinking you are naturally thin? I wouldn't want to be referred to as fat, but I probably could handle skinny, although I'm neither. HTH.

I did not understand that.
Thanks for the point.
I rarely make comments about someone's shaped and never if it is not a compliment.

I don't care what anyone says, that's not offensive and it's no where near the same as calling someone fat.

As long as you are eating healthy I would take it as a compliment.. Unless you are underweight, I would much rather be called skinny than to actually be overweight...
