My boyfriend is just crazy about Captain Planet. It isn't called the same here though, but I actually learned the French lyrics to the theme song by heart for his birthday.... we are such dorks :-)

No-one thinks Captain Planet was cool. If you do then you're not thinking of the right cartoon. Admittedley the theme tune was annoyingly catchy (but still lame) but Captain Planet was, and still is, a dork. I can't even remember what powers he had, just that he looked and sounded incredibly lame.
That's the first time I've used the word 'dork' in my entire life, but it seems so appropriate.
Oh, and as someone else pointed out - heart? Bet he wishes he got first pick of the power rings. (Personally I would have grabbed all 4 elementals and put them all on). Who would have needed Captain Planet then, I could take anybody on.

Captain Planet is the Gayest icon of cartoon history, his amazing high top green mullet gave it away. Earth, Fire, Wind, Water and heart. Heart? Excuse me what in gods name were they thinking. The others had cool power rings, but poor little Asian kid get heart, they could have given him lightening or something now that would have been a good power to have, soon kick some toxic wasters butt with that one.

Not captain Planet, but the earth mother, Gaia. That was actually a theory at the time to protect the earth - that's where the idea came from.
