It seems highly likely to me that it will not be long before Britain has a non-white Prime Minister. Do you agree? Would you expect the first one to be of Afro-Caribbean or of Indian origin? Maybe you feel he/she will more likely be Oriental. What in fact are your views on this?

To such people as the heated individual with racist undertones to his reply below, I seem to have to explain that there is no bias in my question which indicates that I WANT a non-white Prime Minister - though it'd be fun to have one to then see how much it upsets all the died-in-the-wool racists there seem to be around here

What problem should one have with the more recent additions to the British nation? We are a mixed nation, having received genetic, religious and legal input successively from Celts (probably two separate settlements), Romans, Saxons, Scandinavians, Norman French, Semitic, Romany, quite apart from the individual intermarriages which have taken place over hundreds of years ... the fact that most of these had skin colours in the lighter range is merely a geographical accident.

A prime minister (or leader of a party) is chosen on many criteria, one of which, I'm sure, is his or her acceptability to the British public as the head of government and leader of the country. If someone of a particular skin colour or race was seen to be a suitable leader of a party (and I see no reason why this should not be the case), then they would prove themselves on their ability to win an election, not on their colour or creed. Would it matter, for example, if they were not a member of one of the majority religions? If they were Quaker, Mormon, Baha'i, Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim or Rastafarian, for example?

Given that the Prime Minister is the leader of the party with a majority in government (unlike the President who is directly elected by the people), you have to look at the likelihood of a non-white leader of either Labour or the Conservatives. Labour will be led by Gordon Brown next year and he could run the party for another 10 years. David Cameron, the new young leader of the Conservative Party, could also run for 10 years. So I think we are at least 10 years before a non-white Prime Minister comes to power.

God forbid we ever get a Prime Minister of colour. Hopefully the Tories will get in next time and take a much harder view on all these minorities who want to run Britain in a non British way.

The longer a central authority is in power, the extra out of touch they alter into with the conventional public and the extra power-crazed they alter into. It got here approximately with the final Tory government and has got here approximately with this one. notwithstanding, the subject seems extra obvious on the 2nd because of the fact the PM is actual no longer fit for purpose. an extremely clever guy with unquestionably no management skills in any respect.

The problem is (and I'm not being at all racist by this) but this is a white country. If we had an Indian or Muslim PM and then this country was considering war with their home country or country of descent where would their loyalties lie?

This is where I totally agree with many heads of countries in other countries where they don't want whites leading their countries. At the end of the day it's something that we'll have to wait and see.

It does seem highly unlikely, just as a caucasian prime minister of India or China seems highly unlikely.

I think we will end up with a Dutch born Prime Minister, who likes to reside in Scotland, one of these fine days...!

I tend to look at the ideas first, history second and persons third so I really don't care for the colour of a UK prime minister so long as he/she is red.

It doesn't matter. The Prime Minister, President, whatever, all of those folks are just puppets for the real money people.
