Each of my kids has a tv/vcr or DVD in their room so they can watch animated stuff and leave the living room tv for me. My oldest daughter graduated to the old 19" when I bought a bigger TV for the living room. As long as they are not in their all day everyday I do not see a problem.

Depends on the child, and on the parent. I've got one who would never come out if he did. He has what we call 'television disease.' TV for him is like a drug, and is his strongest motivation. I have two others that share a room, are not afflicted with this illness, and they play quite happily without it, even though it's in their room. As a prior educator, I do feel that watching too much tv or the wrong programming can cause violent or lewd behavior, create a tendency for inactivity or expose them to a lot of commercials for things they didn't know they wanted. (I think this can be true for people of all ages.) As a parent, I feel that tv is a privilege, and most of the time, they have only certain DVDs to choose from. Also, if tv viewing isn't the norm, when you need peace and then turn the tv on, you'll get it. It's very handy when you have people over or have to talk to your insurance company without interruption!

That depends on the child. My daughter has a TV in her room, (first time at age 12), because she is able to exercise self-control and not allow it to consume her time. My older son does not because he has no self-control. Also, my daughter has a small TV that is not connected to cable. So it is for games and approved DVDs.

God No! Unless of course you want children who have no imaginations, are addicted to uneducational crap, lack ambition and drive, and prefer tv over sports, music, art, and literature.
They will be much happier in the end if you say no to the tv.

Of course! I always did as a kid and so do my children now, and they always have! When decorating the nurseries both times, we bought television sets.

I really believe it's more of a reward type of thing.
If the kid gets good grades and works really hard, then definitely they should be rewarded.
If they're just ungrateful, lazy slackers who cause you nothing but grief, well, you figure that one out.

I don't think they should until they are a certain age. That's over indulging the child
