The first obvious choice is the Metrocentre. Followed by Newcastle Quayside on a Sunday for the market, and possibly Tynemouth Metro station on the same day.
If you are looking for nightlife in Newcastle, depending on what music you like, there is a good club scene as well as a good rock scene. There's also plenty of opportunities for a quiet drink as well.
There is also Alnwick Castle (Doubled as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films!).
The coast line is beautiful as well. I'd highly recommend a visit to Cullercoats.

Well just a bit west is Merseyside, It depends on ur interests, but there is an amazing village called Port Sunlight, the guy who built it founded sunlight soap etc, he built a village for the workers, amazing art gallery, parks, houses are all different. The local pub, the bridge inn, is a local institution, a school with a sunken playground,
its a great day out, best part is your still in merseyside (liverpool) so you can do the whole Beatles thing the next day.
