At the beginning of the "We're off to see the wizard" sequence, there is a disturbance in the trees off to the right. This was long rumored to be one of the crew (or, by some accounts, one of the dwarf actors) committing suicide by hanging himself, but it is in fact a large bird stretching its wings.

Yes, the story is ture.

While the event is not captuered on film or in the movie itself, an actor did hang himself on the set. It was during the rehersal phase of the movie, long before filming on that set.

As with any legend, the story has grown into the idea of seeing a hung body in the set background. This is a classic example of a tall tale or myth growing out of real events into urban culture.

it is true you can actually see it when dorthy and the tin man and the scarecrow start out singing were off to see the wizard look of into the woods you can see someone hanging it is so true

Nope, my chorus teacher met one of the munchkins and filmed it (even though she wasn't supposed to) and that was one of the questions asked. He said that it wasn't true.

No, my cousin claimed that the one that hung himself was visible when they were dancing in teh tin man. My friend and I watche the movie and we thought we saw it like a hundred times, but it was just an ostrich head. Plus she was morphine.

It actually is true. You have to find a very old version from when it was first released to see it. If I remember it where the evil witch first comes around. But i cant remember. You have to watch real close to see it

I'd like to think so, but study and close up / pauses on DVD have stated it's just a bird in the tree. Will have to try it myself

I have heard this. But it's an urban legend. It's a crewman that got caught in the wires.You have to look closely to see it.
