well do you nurse or formula. None the less infants who only drink milk should drink at the least 32 ounces a day. But if you nurse you will never really know.

My baby is 7 1/2 weeks old and breastfed. I have given him a few bottles of breast milk over the last week or two and he drank around 5 oz. He may have drank more if I pushed it but I didn't because he seemed satisfied and nodded off. The pediatrician says not to push breast milk on a baby as they know how much they need and not to get caught up in numbers. I know there are differences between breast milk and formula, formula has more calories and babies are satisfied longer. I'm not sure which you are using but I would say you aren't too far above the norm to be worried. Mention it to your pediatrician at your next appointment to ease your mind.

Well your child is going to eat exactly what he feels like eating. I don't recall my son eating that much so early on, in fact I think my son was a bit of a light eater, but the doctor didn't seem to question what was going on. My son usually ate at between 4 to 6. Maybe yours just has a really good appetite lol. Just keep checking with his pediatrician at doctors visits, they will keep monitering his eating habits to make sure he is on track. But every baby is different. Don't do anything though, unless your doctor tells you different. I have never heard of a doctor saying to limit an infants milk intake. If he seems to not be satisfied, ask your doctor if adding a little bit of rice is ok at his age. Sometimes they need something a little heavier, and it literally doesn't take much at all, especially in one so young. Maybe a teaspoon in a 7 oz bottle. Sounds like a healthy baby though!

For any baby under 12 months, the minimum is this: a base of 2oz, then 1oz for each month the baby has lived, so in your baby's case, around 3-4oz would be the very least he should be getting, about every 3-4 hours. Yes, you can allow your baby to have that much; he must need it. I can't imagine taking the bottle away while a baby is still drinking it. Imagine the screaming!

You should give your son as much as he wants to eat, he will only drink until his tummy is full. If he is sleeping for 4 hours at a time that is GREAT, especially at 6wks! I think the "norm" is around 4 ounces, but every baby is different. When my son was small, he would wake every hour for formula and drink 4 ounces each time!!!

I think that is a little to much to drink for a 6week old. I think 4oz at the most is the norm for an infant that age. Maybe even three. Talk to a doctor. You may have to stop him at a certain amount. You do not want him becoming over weight, or getting used to stuffing himself to get satisfied. That may have an impact on your child as the years go by.

All you have to keep in mind is that thier stomachs are only the size of thier fist. I know it's unbelievable but true. Give him only what he wants, he will let you know when he's had enough.
